House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Hails Breakthroughs by Small Labs
In a Capitol Hill newspaper read widely by Members of Congress and staff, Rep. Nydia Velazquez, Chairwoman of the U.S. House Small Business Committee, today emphasized the critical role that small laboratories play in addressing chronic diseases and cutting health care costs.
"A new wave of medical technologies is promising to revolutionize American healthcare and, in doing so, rein in costs," wrote Rep. Velazquez in the column, published in The Hill newspaper. "Within the laboratory community and other sectors of the industry, key private-public partnerships have successfully fostered innovation." She pointed to the Small Business Administration's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBTT) programs, in particular, as playing a critical role in allowing small laboratories to spearhead medical breakthroughs.
